A one-man play about a journey to find out exactly what it means to be "normal."The Quest is David's mythological journey to become normal. It begins in the delivery room where David's father has brought him his very first present - a baseball glove. His father's dream of David becoming the next great right-handed pitcher is challenged when he learns that David has been born missing his right hand. We watch his father's struggle to find the right words to say and make the decision never to treat him differently. As the play unfolds, David is in middle school where he is desperate to be accepted. He gains acceptance from other boys easily by playing sports; but girls - that's another thing. After a horrific experience in the school lunchroom, he decides he can have a girlfriend only if he is normal. In his mind, "normal" is having two hands. He begins a quest to find a second hand, believing this discovery will make him normal and ultimately help him find a girlfriend. Through his quest, David faces many challenges, from a secret portal in Wal-Mart, to a fashion conscious Fox, and learns that having two hands has nothing to do with being normal. |
